Service and Career
Dr. Andrew Loerch has had a distinguished career as an Army operations research professional, advancing the field through impactful research, leadership, and service to the Military Operations Research Society (MORS).
He received the 1993 Wilbur B. Payne Award for his “Value Added Analysis” (VAA) methodology and study, which provided solutions to the Capital Budgeting Problem for Army weapon systems. In 2011, Dr. Loerch was recognized with the Vance R. Wanner Memorial Award for his sustained excellence in national security operations research and contributions to the profession.
Dr. Loerch’s work on the Combat Sample Generator model of operational warfare (COSAGE) provided critical insights into operational dynamics, enabling Army leaders to refine requirements and capabilities. His influence extended to service as MORS President (2004–2005), and he was elected a MORS Fellow in 2008. He also contributed to and co-edited landmark MORS publications, including “Methods for Conducting Military Operational Analysis.”
