CPT Denise Lopez

An ORSA officer describes how deployed analytics and automated dashboards supported operational assessments and resource decisions for Security Assistance Group - Ukraine.
Abstract
The experience of an Operations Research/Systems Analysis (ORSA) Officer serving as the Chief of Assessments and Analytics within the forward-deployed Security Assistance Group - Ukraine required the rapid application of analytical methodologies to support a partner nation during active operations. Key responsibilities included the development of automated dashboards to visualize and assess operational insights, refinement of internal operational assessment methodologies, and analytical support to the military decision-making process (MDMP). These activities directly informed the commanding general’s update briefings and provided insight into decisions on resource allocation. Placing analytical talent in forward-deployed operational roles allows ORSAs to function as significant force multipliers, providing substantial professional value while delivering direct, tangible impact to mission-critical decisions.
