Abstract

Accurately representing complex geometries is critical for defense applications ranging from Joint Weaponeering System (JW S) assessments to advanced operational visualizations. However, analysts and engineers frequently encounter a bottleneck: the extreme detail of native solid models often exceeds the computational limits or specific fidelity requirements of their end-use tools. Different stakeholders require tailored geometric representations to balance rigorous vulnerability analysis with rapid processing speeds.

To address this operational gap, the Transformation Decision Analysis Center (TDAC) has developed streamlined methods to quickly produce target model representations of varying fidelities to meet the exact needs of the end user. This rapid, repeatable process utilizes BRL-CAD and commercial CAD software to transform complex existing geometry into optimized, purpose-built formats. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, these methods allow for scalable geometry simplification, enabling users to extract adjustable exterior models or customized bounding representations on demand. Ultimately, this capability equips weaponeers, analysts, and planners with the precise level of detail required, significantly accelerating the targeting and analysis workflow without compromising operational effectiveness.
