Service and Career
Laura Pitts advanced Army munitions analysis and the management of weapon-system performance data. Her work included more than 30 publications on large-caliber ammunition hit and kill probabilities between 1967 and 2022.
She authored a 1976 handbook covering delivery accuracy, firing rates, and terminal effects. Her analysis supported programs including the M1A2 Abrams, Mobile Protected Gun System, ARMVAL, and Close Combat Tactical Trainer. As the Army Model Improvement Program's Close Combat Team Leader, she developed approaches to evaluating friendly and opposing maneuver systems through live-fire planning and testing.
Pitts also pioneered the distribution of performance estimates on magnetic tape, helping make consistent analytical data available across the Army. In 2010, the Armor community recognized her contributions with the Knightly Spirit of St. George, Noble Patron of Armor honor.
